Monsignor Charles J. Schaeflein

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Monsignor Schaeflein was ordained into the priesthood after completing his studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1949.

In addition to his priestly duties, he spent his early years teaching at both the high school and college levels which eventually led to the position of high school administrator.

Following his tenure in education, he assumed the duties of pastor of Saint Andrew's Church, Newtown, PA. Under his leadership, he organized the planning, design and construction of a new church to meet the growing needs of his parish. Following his tenure in education, he assumed the duties of pastor of Saint Andrew's Church, Newtown, PA. Upon his retirement, he accepted the position as chaplain to the retired Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. He chooses to remain active in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and frequently assists at surrounding parishes.

His "musical career" began at the age of 78, when he became involved as co-lyricist for The Promise, Gift of Grace, and Blessings. He readily admits that God's ways are often mysterious and "seniority" probably had something to do with it.

He shares his living quarters with "Little Girl", his furry, white feline companion who rules with an iron paw. His leisure activities include reading, especially books relating to theology, philosophy and science, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, playing tennis and rooting for the home team.
